Cheung tells him that she needed the money to get in to her arparmtent. Her mother died last June of lung cancer. She has no money to pay rent for 4 months and the landlord has locked her door. Her dog, Isabella, is locked inside. The landlord has thrown the dog out. Cheung and Ma walks around looking for the dog and he asks her why call the dog Isabella. Cheung says that her mother gave it to her not long after her illness. She later found out the dog was named after her mother.
There is a large investigation that is following the handover of Macau back to China of crocket cops. Ma is planning to go on refuge. Ma picks up Cheung's cellphone while she was gone and it was a call from Cheung's mother's friend. It turns out that was Cheung's biological father. Ma meets up with the man and the man told him that Cheung's mother had actually aborted the child she had with Ma. Cheung was the child she conceived with the man and they had broken up after that. Turn out Cheung's mother never told her that Ma was her father. She guessed it because her mother would I was look upset and turn away when they ran into Ma in the street.
When Ma goes home he thinks long about what to do with Cheung and decides to give her a normal live. He admitted he was very scared when Cheung's mother got preganent and he stole to get money for her abortion. He sold his Rolex to pay for rent enough for Cheung for three years and the money from the refuge should be enough for her live on.
The day of court Ma shaves and dresses in a suit. Cheung drives him in her scooter to the court house. When he is on the stairs, Cheung tells him she will wait for him outside.
