Sam Ching (Andy Lau) is an owner of a corporation that owns MGM Hotel in Shanghai. He flies to Shanghai with his secretary, Jo Kwok (Denise Ho) to conduct meetings for the hotel. He is a kind boss that tries to set up his long time driver Tim Ma (Lam Ka-Wah) with a girl and tries to help Jo find a boyfriend.
Sam meets Milan Sit (Shu Qi) while she was working in the hotel. Milan is a poor girl living in Shanghai that is an inspired tap dancer. She was substituting a casino dealer. Andy Lau happens to meet her in the elevator and on the Pak Ga Lok table. Andy finds Milan interesting for her tap dancing in the elevator and mistaking him for a gambling addict. Sam and Milan start a relationship together.
Time progresses, Jo meets a poor electrician in the hotel and falls in love with him. Tim falls in love with a Shanghaian with a child and Sam falls in love with Milan. Sam breaks it to Milan that he is the rich guy that owns MGM Hotel. Milan accepts him even though she knows that their social status will cause trouble.
He proposes to her but his financial advisors urge him have her sign an pre-nuptial agreement. Sam had three wifes before and one of them took half his fortune. Sam and Milan's relationship turns sour. At the same time Jo and Tim is having similar problems with their new found love. All three of them are in love with people that are lower in social status.
Sam, Jo and Tim decide to take their love to a reality tv show that specializes in bringing guests that are looking for their happiness. Jo and Tim's lovers came on the show and successfully got back together. However Milan did not show up as such she rejected Sam on public TV. Sam remember that Milan is a person that is true to everyone around her and doesn't care for money. Sam leaves the show and finds Milan at their first date spot.
Milan tells him that she really wants to come but is not ready for his world. Then she presents him with a ring and tells him that she is ready for him to join her world. Sam accepts.
